Ownership without Artwork
“Blockchain #1 – Archive of the Unreachable” translates the digital, irreversible logic of NFTs stored in blockchains into a visible, physical form: paper, hand- and typewritten, stamped, sequential.
NFTs claim ownership of art, that is stored somewhere else, often inaccessible to the public. In consequence, contemporary art developments are extensively lost to the reception of their generation and the public as cultural heritage.
Art behind paywalls, NFTs or ever private collections will not be received, referenced or used for inspiration. It cannot spread the artists’ intentions and the mindscape of their generation.
It only exists as a documented claim of possession in an NFT. The blockchain does not safeguard the artwork, only the conditions of its absence.
By turning code into paper, and data into type, my piece claims visibility of digitally stored art — while simultaneously mourning its loss.
